On behalf of the Department and Division I want to welcome all visitors to our website. Here you will see how mathematics is a vibrant and lively science of great beauty with many ways to enhance our understanding of the world around us.
The Department contains faculty members with international reputations and offers 6 different emphases at the bachelors' level; a mathematics masters degree with 4 distinct tracks; a masters' degree in Applied Probability and Statistics offered by the Division of Statistics and a recently introduced Master of Science in Teaching degree. In addition the department offers a Ph.D. Program with current enrollment of around 30 students. Departmental instructional facilities include the Math Education Lab, the Math Emporium and the Mathematics Assistance Center.
The department's programs are big enough to offer a wide variety of options yet small enough so that students are likely to be closely involved with professional faculty from the time of their arrival at Northern.
